Parent Info
Welcome to The Learning Lane. Here is some information on aspects of the programme that we run. We look forward to working together with you and sharing this learning journey with you and your child and hope you enjoy your time with us. Please provide us with a copy of your child’s birth certificate or passport before starting at Preschool.
Personal Belongings
Anything and everything your child brings to preschool must be named i.e. clothing, lunch boxes, drink bottles, hats etc. Clothing should be practical and appropriate for running, climbing, engaging in messy play and for the weather. Please bring at least one spare set of clothing.
Food
We are a lunch box centre where you provide your own food. Sessional children need to bring either morning or afternoon tea and a drink (preferably water) in named containers. All day children need to bring enough food and drink for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Please talk with staff about appropriate foods for your child’s lunchbox. We ask that lollies, chocolate and fizzy drinks be left at home please respect the we are a nut free centre.
Public Holidays / Christmas Break
We are closed for all Public Holidays. We are closed for a 2-3-week period over the Christmas break.
Settling in
Prior to your child’s official start date we highly recommend you and your child visit the centre. We recommend 2 or more visits. This will allow time for your child to become familiar with the new environment and get to know the teachers. We understand that this can be an anxious time for both child and parent and we are happy to work in with each family and their individual needs. Children all take a different length of time to settle, and together we will discuss what will work best for your child. At The Learning Lane we have an ‘open door’ policy which means you are welcome at any time in the centre to work and play with your child; we encourage you to do so.
Portfolios
Every child has an individual portfolio, which is a collection of learning stories, observations, photos, milestones and artwork; a celebration of your child’s learning journey throughout their time at our preschool. Please take time with your child to enjoy looking through these portfolios and feel free to add or give feedback. We love to read parent comments or stories from home about your child; this also offers a sense of belonging and contribution to children.
Online Portfolios
INFOCARE – We operate an online system where you (and family members) are able to view and contribute to your child’s learning and development. Your child will be allocated a special login password where you will be able to view photos, stories, account information and news. This will be our main form of communication.
